Permethrin is a scabicide used to treat scabies. It works by killing the tiny insects (mites) that cause scabies. It may also be used to treat other conditions as determined by your doctor.
Follow the directions for using Permethrin provided by your doctor. Massage Permethrin Cream into the skin from your head to the soles of your feet. For some patients, your doctor may also ask you to treat your scalp, temples, and forehead. Bathe or shower after 8 to 14 hours to remove this medicine. Store this medicine at room temperature, away from heat and light. Keep the container tightly closed.
Itching, tingling, numbness, redness or irritation may occur. If these effects continue, inform your doctor. Notify your doctor if you develop: a skin rash, burning or swelling skin. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
Tell your doctor if you have: other illnesses, any allergies. This medication should be used only if clearly needed during pregnancy. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor. It is not known if this medication appears in breast milk. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. This medicine may be harmful if swallowed. Symptoms of overdose may include dizziness, loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, headache, weakness, seizures, and loss of consciousness.
Itching may continue for up to 14 days due to sensitivity to mites. This does not indicate treatment failure. Contact your doctor before using this medicine again. Do not share this medicine with others for whom it was not prescribed. Do not use this medicine for other health conditions. Keep this medicine out of the reach of children.
