CHEMICAL NAME CHOLESTYRAMINE.
INDICATIONS Questran(Cholestyramine) is used to lower cholesterol levels in the blood for the purpose of decreasing the risk of heart disease.
DIRECTIONS Follow the directions for using Questran(Cholestyramine) provided by your doctor. Take other medicines 1 hour or more before or at least 4 hours after taking Questran(Cholestyramine) Powder. Always mix this medicine with at least 2 to 6 ounces of liquid (water or non-carbonated beverage) before taking. Stir until well mixed (it will not dissolve) before drinking. After drinking all the liquid, fill the glass with more liquid and drink it to be sure your receive the full dose. Alternatively, this medicine may be mixed with highly fluid soups (chicken noodle, tomato) or pulpy fruit (applesauce, pineapple). Do not take this medicine in the dry, powder form. Drink several glasses (8 ounces) of water or other liquid daily, unless directed otherwise by your doctor. Store this medicine at room temperature in a tightly-closed container, away from heat and light. MISSED DOSE: If you miss a dose of this medicine, take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take 2 doses at once.
SIDE EFFECTS Stomach upset, heartburn, constipation, belching, gas, nausea, loss of appetite, aggravated hemorrhoids, change of taste, headache, or itching may occur. If these effects persist or become bothersome, inform your doctor. Notify your doctor if you experience: unusual bleeding or bruising, severe stomach ache, vomiting. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
PRECAUTIONS Tell your doctor your medical history, especially: constipation, hemorrhoids, diabetes, phenylketonuria (PKU), low thyroid hormone levels (hypothyroidism), stomach/intestinal disease, gall bladder disease, kidney disease, liver disease, unusual bleeding or bruising, any allergies. This drug should be used only when clearly needed during pregnancy. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor. It is not known if this drug is excreted into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
OVERDOSAGE If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include severe constipation.
INFORMATION Do not share this medicine with others for whom it was not prescribed. Do not use this medicine for other health conditions. Keep this medicine out of the reach of children. If using this medicine for an extended period of time, obtain refills before your supply runs out.

DRUG INTERACTIONS Tell your doctor of all prescription and nonprescription drugs you may use, especially of: digitoxin, digoxin, diuretics ("water pills"), penicillin G, phenobarbital, phenylbutazone, propranolol, tetracycline, thyroid, warfarin or other "blood thinners", vitamin A/D/E, antidepressants, hydrocortisone, estrogens and progestins (e.g., birth control pills), troglitazone. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.
