INDICATIONS
LIDOCAINE (Xylocaine) causes loss of feeling in the skin and surrounding tissues. It can numb the skin and mucus membranes of the mouth and throat.
DIRECTIONS
Lidocaine is for topical use in the mouth or throat. Do not swallow this medicine unless you have been told to. Follow the directions on the prescription label. If you have a sore place in your mouth, you can apply lidocaine with a cotton-tipped applicator. The solution can be swished around the mouth or gargled, and then spat out. Use a specially marked spoon or container to measure the solution. Ask your pharmacist if you do not have one. If you are using an oral spray, shake well before use; do not inhale the spray. Do not use more often than directed. Contact your pediatrician or health care professional regarding the use of this medicine in children. Special care may be needed.
SIDE EFFECTS
Side effects that you should report to your prescriber or health care professional as soon as possible:swelling of the mouth or throat. Very rare or uncommon:anxiety, nervousness,chest pain, continued irregular heartbeats,difficulty breathing, wheezing,dizziness, drowsiness,headache,nausea, vomiting,seizures (convulsions),trembling, shaking,
unusual weakness or tiredness.
PRECAUTIONS
Be careful to avoid injury while the area is numb from the lidocaine and you are not aware of pain. Do not chew gum or food until the numbness wears off to avoid biting your tongue or cheek and to avoid choking.
OVERDOSAGE
If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately.
INFORMATION
Keep out of reach of children. Store at room temperature between 15 and 30 degrees C (59 and 86 degrees F); do not freeze.
