CHEMICAL NAME
ELETRIPTAN.

INDICATIONS
Relpax(Eletriptan) is a "triptan"-type medication used to treat migraine headache attacks. It does not prevent migraine headaches from occurring and should not be used for other types of headaches (e.g., cluster headaches).

DIRECTIONS
Take Relpax Tablets by mouth at the first sign of a migraine headache as directed. If relief occurs after one dose, but the headache returns, the dose may be repeated after 2 hours if so directed by your doctor. If you have no relief with the first dose, do not take a second dose without consulting your doctor. Do not take more than two doses (or more than 80 mg) in a 24 hour period. Read the Patient Information Leaflet available from your pharmacist. If you have any questions, consult your doctor or pharmacist. If you have never taken this medication before and you have risk factors for heart disease (see Precautions), you may be advised to take the very first dose in your doctor's office in order to monitor for rare but serious heart problems (e.g., heart attack).

SIDE EFFECTS
Stomach upset, dizziness, or dry mouth may occur. If any of these effects persist or worsen, notify your doctor or pharmacist promptly. Tell your doctor immediately if any of these unlikely but serious side effects occur: tingling or numbness of the hands or feet, chest pain/pressure/tightness, throat pain/pressure/tightness, jaw or neck pain, trouble swallowing. Tell your doctor immediately if any of these highly unlikely but very serious side effects occur: unusually fast/slow/irregular heartbeat, stomach pain, bloody diarrhea, one-sided weakness, vision problems, slurred speech. An allergic reaction to this drug is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include: rash, itching, swelling, severe dizziness, trouble breathing. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.

PRECAUTIONS
Before taking eletriptan, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it; or to other "triptan" migraine drugs; or if you have any other allergies. This medication should not be used if you have certain medical conditions. Before using this medicine, consult your doctor or pharmacist if you have: chest pain (angina), history of heart attack(s), other heart or blood vessel disease (e.g., coronary artery disease with vasospasm or ischemia), uncontrolled high blood pressure, history of stroke(s), other types of headaches (hemiplegic or basilar migraines), certain blood circulation problems (e.g., peripheral vascular disease, ischemic bowel disease), severe liver disease. Before using this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you have risk factors for heart disease including: high cholesterol level, high blood pressure, diabetes, smoking history, family history of heart disease or stroke, obesity. Caution is also recommended in women after menopause or after removal of the ovaries, and men over 40 years old because of an increased risk for undiagnosed heart disease. Before using this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist your medical history, especially of: excessive weight gain, other blood circulation problems (e.g., Raynaud's syndrome). This drug may make you dizzy; use caution engaging in activities requiring alertness such as driving or using machinery. Limit alcoholic beverages. Caution is advised when using this drug in the elderly because they may be more sensitive to its side effects. This medication should be used only when clearly needed during pregnancy. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor. This drug passes into breast milk and may have undesirable effects on a nursing infant. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.

OVERDOSAGE
If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include: severe dizziness or chest pain.
