INDICATIONS
Calciferol is a drug with the generic name called ergocalciferol, which is a vitamin D2 that is important for the functioning of calcium in the body and for the absorption of calcium from the stomach.
Calciferol is used in the treatment of the following:
refractory rickets or vitamin-D resistant rickets
familial hypophosphatemia
hypoparathyroidism
Calciferol may be also used for other purposes not listed in this medication guide.
DIRECTIONS
Calciferol should be taken exactly as directed by your doctor or as directed on the package. Ask your pharmacist, nurse, or doctor to explain them to you if you do not understand these directions.
WARNINGS
Patients who have high level of calcium or vitamin D in the body is not recommended to take Calciferol.
Talk to your doctor if you experience any of the following before taking Calciferol:
kidney disease
kidney stones
liver disease
biliary disease
heart disease
stomach or malabsorption problems
circulation problems
If you take any of the medications listed above you may not be able to take Calciferol, or you may require a lower dose or special monitoring during your therapy. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist for more information.
Calciferol is listed in the FDA pregnancy category C, which means that it is not known whether, doses of Calciferol more than the recommended daily allowance will harm an unborn baby. Talk to your doctor if you are pregnant before taking Calciferol or any supplemental medicine.
Calciferol passes into breast milk. Patients breast-feeding an infant is advised not to take Calciferol without first telling your doctor.
